There are a lot of components inside computers - you have probably heard a lot of them mentioned but not be quite sure where they are or exactly what they do.

Lesson 1 - Core Hardware Components

After your teacher has introduced computers and components, create a presentation about the following components as a minimum:

  • Motherboard
  • Processor
  • Computer RAM
  • Graphics card
  • Another component of your choice

On each page, as a minimum, include:

  • Title
  • Picture
  • Definition
  • Source of information

Lesson 2 - Hardware vs Software

What is hardware and what is software? Consider definitions and differences. Consider the link between hardware and software - how are they connected and how do they interact?

Add the following three slides to your presentation as a minimum:

  • Hardware
  • Software
  • Hardware vs Software

Lesson 3 - Recommend a computer

Consider different purposes of computers. Faster PCs are generally more expensive. How much money do you think you need to spend?

Research PCs/laptops/tablets. Make a recommendation for the following situations:

  • Device for school work
  • Device for gaming
  • Device for casual use on the sofa

Add a page for each to your presentation. Include a title, picture, price and link as well as an explanation of why you recommend it.

Lesson 4 - Different types of software

What is software? How would you describe it to someone? What can software be used for?

Write a list of uses of software.

Software can be split into different categories:

  • Application
  • System
  • Utility

Investigate the different categories and create a slide for each section.

Lesson 5 - NEEDS ADDING

NOTE: Check the scheme and see what else needs covering.

Lesson 6 - Assessment

This will depend on your teacher and is not currently available on this website.
