Getting Started - Web Design

Web Design can be complicated to get started with but this lesson will help you get a template you can use for experimenting with creating websites. Please note, publishing your site on the Internet is not something we cover in these lessons, they are just creating a static site that works on your computer. Even so, it is an important first step on your Web Design journey.

Download the Putkeep Website Template. It is a zip file. You need to extract the contents before using it when it is downloaded. Move the extracted folder out of your downloads folder to a better place.

Lesson 1

The first thing you need to be able to do is edit the HTML pages such as index.html (which is the name for the home page). HTML pages can be opened in two ways - using a browser such as Chrome, Edge, Firefox etc. so you can see what it looks like and using an editor such as Notepad++, Dreamweaver etc. so you can edit the page and save it.

Start by opening index.html in a browser and editor.

Find the <hero> section and edit Large Hero Title to be a title of your choice. Then save the document, go to the browser, refresh the page and check your new title shows.

Once you can confidently follow that process, try editing other text that is inside HTML tags then save and refresh test it worked.

Lesson 2, 3 and 4

Learn about computational thinking then include some information on your website about it.
