More Online Threats - E-Safety

Maybe you do not know as much as you think...

It is easy to get complacent about online safety, we think we are safe then suddenly something catches us out. Part of the reason for this is that threats are constantly evolving so always keep this in mind.

For this activity you need to create an Interactive Multimedia Presentation about Staying Safe Online. Basically, it's a posh presentation that has a menu and buttons for hyperlinking to different pages. Don't worry too much about the technical side, the main focus is getting some good content that is useful and informative. Getting information from the Internet is okay but you must remember to reference your sources.

Lesson 1

Your teacher can give you more information but start with creating a presentation about risks including pages on:

  • Phishing
  • Viruses
  • Malware

Lesson 2

Add information about prevention techniques and how to stay safe online.

Lesson 3

Make the presentation interactive with buttons and a menu as well as adding transitions and animations.

Lesson 4

Add information about risks to personal safety such as the impact of loss of personal information or agreeing to meet people you meet online.

Lesson 5

Discuss the definition of cybercrime, examples and reasons why people commit it.

Watch this video and discuss.

Extend the presentation with the definition then information about computer misuse laws. As a minimum include:

  • Computer Misuse Act
  • Copyright, Designs and Patents Act
  • Data Protection Act

As an extension, find examples of news articles and cybercrimes that have been committed.

Lesson 6 - Assessment

This will depend on your teacher and is not currently available on this website.
